Andy Gump has participated in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley communities through the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts and YMCA in the 1950's and 60's. Barry and Pati Gump lost a child to Cystic Fibrosis in 1970 and have devoted themselves to finding the cure ever since. In association with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, they helped found the "Sixty-five Roses" Club, which raised thousand of dollars for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Barry has served as president of the local chapter of the Foundation and continues to serve as a Director of the national Board. Barry travels throughout California, speaking on behalf of the families affected by the disease and raising funds. Barry, Pati and Nancy donate time, equipment, services and money to many charitable organizations in support of local causes, including Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation, Victims of Domestic Violence, Red Cross, Sheriff's Department, Family Counseling Centers, Homeless Shelters, Boys & Girls Club, Michael Haffelin Foundation, American Cancer Society "Relay for Life" and school sports programs, to name a few. Barry has also served the portable sanitation industry as President of the Portable Sanitation Association, co-authoring the Service Technician Certification Program, which is recognized as an industry standard in many states. His reputation and leadership skills led to the creation of a "friendly competitor" partnership, which provided portable sanitation for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics. Barry also works with local governmental agencies regarding environmental issues relating to waste treatment and improving the quality of life in the communities his company serves. In 1990 Barry Gump was recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the Los Angeles District "Small Business Person of the Year" for his accomplishments. In 1995 the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce named Barry "Citizen of the Year". In 2000 the Portable Sanitation Association International recognized Barry for his "personal dedication and leadership in support of the Portable Sanitation industry worldwide". In 2002, Andy Gump, Inc. was recognized by the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce as the "Large Business of the Year" for their contributions to the community. |
