Andy Gump was recently part of a historic journey to transport a 340-ton granite boulder from a Riverside quarry to its final destination at LACMA (Los Angeles  County Museum of Art). The rock will be the centerpiece of artist Michael Heizer’s sculpture “Levitated Mass,” which should be completed in the next few months.

We provided one of our portable restrooms to tow along with the caravan that moved this two-story-high piece of granite through four counties and 22 cities. We got an opportunity to snap a few pictures when the rock was parked at its 9th stop in Los Angeles:

We can only imagine the planning that went into moving this rock, but we were glad to be part of something that will only happen once in lifetime!
